The disadvantages of travertine become advantages in the Duramica variant: A Versatile Stone for Interior and Exterior Design

TRAVERTINE VS TRAVERTINE IN DURAMICA VARIANT.

Duramica travertine

Travertine (from Italian travertino) is a limestone tuff, a polycrystalline fragile fine-grained mountain rock. Travertine is an intermediate form of stone between limestone and marble. It is easily susceptible to grinding and polishing. In the first century BC, travertine was known as lapis tiburtinus (Tiburtine stone). Since ancient times, travertine has been used as a building and facing stone (also for interior decoration). The largest structure built using travertine is the Colosseum and St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.

Travertine – Pros and Cons

Alongside granite and marble, noble travertine is quite often used for external and interior cladding. Due to its predominantly light color, it can give the exterior a special originality and charm.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF TRAVERTINE?

DIVERSITY

Yes, the choice of colors and shades of travertine is less than that of marble, but to say that there are few of them is impossible. Travertine can be found in milky, dark beige, red, gray, white, and even yellow shades. Thanks to our experience, we have learned to apply various original techniques. For example, longitudinal and transverse sawing of slabs gives a different pattern. And different directions of grinding allow you to change the shade even within one color.

IN TREND

We've already told you that many people prefer travertine today, and this is almost the main trend of modernity in interior and exterior solutions. Travertine cladding is an unbeaten solution. Granite blocks are more traditional, marble ones are familiar. This stone has a more lively "character" than, for example, majestic granite, and it gives more "comfort" than high-status marble.

AMAZING PROPERTIES

• Aesthetic Appeal: Resemblance to Granite, Marble, and Elite Wood Species.

• Travertine is a soft stone, making it easily workable. It can be crafted into stunning ornamentation, reliefs, pilasters, carved columns, and various decorative elements.

• This stone is lighter than marble and granite. While the weight difference per slab may be negligible, it becomes noticeable when considering the load-bearing capacity of walls.

• Eco-Friendliness: Unlike artificially manufactured stone, travertine does not release harmful substances when heated by sunlight, as it lacks polymer resins in its composition. It is completely safe for humans.

• Resistance to Temperature Fluctuations: Travertine exhibits higher resistance to temperature changes compared to marble. It can withstand Russian frosts followed by thaws.

• Excellent Thermal and Sound Insulation Properties.

TRAVERTINE'S DISADVANTAGES

  • Porous structure. Due to this property, travertine can absorb soot, dirt from car exhaust gases. If the house is located near a road or highway, this can cause a number of inconveniences.

  • High water absorption. Another concern is the ingress of water through the stone's lacunae, which can lead to its freezing and subsequent destruction. However, thanks to this same property, rooms in the house "breathe," the microclimate in the rooms is not disturbed, and the "greenhouse effect" is not created.

  • Fragility.

ALL THESE DISADVANTAGES ARE ABSENT IN THE DURAMICA-BASED VERSION OF TRAVERTINE AND BECOME ADVANTAGES

In the Duramica Variant, water absorption and porosity are reduced to zero thanks to the minimal stone layer and special double hydrophobization. And thanks to the ceramic base, it will remain as hard as ceramic tile.

Duramica travertine

Travertine is a timeless and fashionable natural material whose popularity will only grow over the years. Therefore, acquiring it for interior decoration or facade finishing is a wise investment that will pay off a hundredfold.
