Material and Design

Duramica GlassOnyx panels are large-format composite panels made from natural semiprecious stones on a glass base. The collection can include stones such as lapis lazuli, quartz, agate, onyx and other translucent or decorative natural materials. Each stone element is cut, polished and assembled into a panel to create a durable surface with a natural mineral pattern.

The glass backing makes the panel lighter and stronger than solid stone, lighter than solid stone and improves its stability and allows the material to be used in larger formats for wall cladding, ceiling cladding, floor cladding and furniture cladding. Depending on the project, Duramica GlassOnyx panels can be produced with or without backlighting. Backlit natural stone highlights the colours, structure and transparency of the material and is used when an illuminated decorative effect is required.

Advantages Over Solid Onyx

Lightweight

Laminated onyx on glass is lighter than solid onyx, which makes transportation, handling and installation easier, especially for large panels, wall surfaces, furniture elements and custom architectural objects.

Transparency

The glass backing improves the translucent effect of the stone and allows the panel to be used with backlighting. This helps highlight the natural patterns, colours and depth of the onyx or other translucent stone.

Increased Strength and Durability

The glass base reinforces the stone and improves the panel’s stability. Compared with solid onyx, reinforced stone panels are more resistant to impact, wear, surface damage and everyday use.

Ease of Processing

Onyx attached to glass is easier to process than solid stone. This allows the production of more precise panels, complex shapes, decorative patterns and custom design elements.
