Natural stones have long been admired for their depth, translucency, and unique character. In bar design, they go beyond decoration, becoming a medium through which light and atmosphere are revealed. However, natural onyx, quartzite, and agate are often heavy, fragile, or complex to install. To preserve their visual purity while improving strength and practicality, GlassOnyx reinforced panels by Duramica were developed — a thin layer of genuine stone bonded to glass. This structure reduces material thickness and weight, increases rigidity, and allows the creation of backlit bars and illuminated bar walls where the stone seems to glow from within — durable, stable, and visually pure.
Glassonyx Glassonyx Triplex
We use GlassOnyx — reinforced panels where natural stone is laminated onto glass. This technology makes structures lighter, stronger, and more stable. Although the stone layer is thinner, the glass base ensures rigidity, prevents deformation, and enhances light transmission. The result — the same visual effect, at a lower cost and with higher structural reliability.
The GlassOnyx Triplex technology integrates a layer of stone between two glass sheets, creating a robust yet visually expressive surface. This method allows the use of translucent stones like onyx even in high-traffic areas such as backlit bar tops or floors — a breakthrough in both durability and design.
Backlit Onyx Bars — Classic Warm Light

Backlit onyx bars are a timeless choice. The natural veining, subtle translucency, and warm internal glow create a unique atmosphere of depth and refinement.
But onyx is not limited to yellow or orange tones — the palette is vast. There are green, white, grey, pink, bluish, and even nearly black varieties, each transforming under light in its own way.

Quartz and Agate — From Minimalism to Drama
White quartz bars bring a colder, more architectural character — ideal for minimal or modern interiors, especially with neutral or white lighting.
Pink quartz is softer in tone, producing a delicate, warm illumination — perfect for spa zones, lounges, and intimate space

Smoky quartz and brown agate have a deeper, more mature expression. Under backlighting, their textures create amber-like reflections — ideal for backlit bar walls and accent counters.

Agates themselves deserve special mention. Green, red, blue, and black agates each have their own character. They are not only about color — their layered structure captures and refracts light, creating a sense of movement and depth.

Sodalite, Amethyst, Aventurine — Collector’s Materials
Bars made of sodalite, amethyst, or aventurine belong to a different category — not merely decorative but collectible. With these stones, lighting becomes an integral part of the design concept, revealing crystalline geometry and natural brilliance.

Duramica Gemstone Panels — Beyond Backlighting
All these stones can also be used without lighting. We also produce DURAMICA Gemstone panels — the same natural materials in dense, non-translucent form.

These allow the creation of bar counters, islands, and receptions made from petrified wood, tiger’s eye, lapis lazuli, malachite, and other semi-precious stones — where texture and rarity take precedence over light.

Stone and Light — A New Harmony
Modern technology allows us to use the beauty of natural stone where it was once impossible. GlassOnyx panels by Duramica open new possibilities for creating backlit bar tops, illuminated counters, and lighted bar walls that merge aesthetics, durability, and functionality.
If you are designing a space where stone should not just decorate but define the atmosphere — contact us.
